We know times are a little uncertain right now, and a lot of us are at home with family wondering what to do. A great way to keep active and busy and involve family is spring cleaning! Here are a few things to get done around the home and even get outside a little!

THINK GREEN WHILE YOU SPRING CLEAN

You want to start spring off on a clean note, so don’t expose yourself to chemicals and toxins. A steam cleaner is one of the best green products for spring cleaning. It can be used to clean your microwave, tile, hard floors, kitchen appliances, bathrooms, and even outdoor areas. Since steam cleaners only use hot water vapor, they are a 100% natural and chemical-free cleaning solution. But keep in mind – not everything can be steam cleaned.

If you don’t have a steam cleaner, one of the best natural combinations for cleaning is white distilled vinegar, baking soda, and water. These ingredients are affordable, non-toxic, and have worked for ages when it comes to cleaning.

WIPE DOWN COMMONLY USED SURFACES

Phones, remotes, and other commonly used electronic items, along with refrigerator doors, microwaves, and cupboards (and tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, toilets, faucets, sinks) are some of our most commonly touched surfaces. In a small spray bottle, mix a one-to-one ratio of distilled water and 70% isopropyl alcohol. The distilled water is essential if you live in an area that has hard water, which is filled with microscopic minerals that can scratch the glass on the phone. Give the bottle a good shake and use a microfiber cloth to wipe the surfaces clean.

Clean with the kids

Cleaning kids’ rooms can be quite a task. You can put most kids toys in the dishwasher and run them through a cycle to clean them, just make sure you take them out before the dry cycle. Make it fun and have the kids help! Create a cleaning treasure hunt and tell the kids you’ve carefully hidden small toys and treats here and there, and that the only way they’re going to discover these gems is by cleaning up the house.

CLEAN EVERYTHING YOU’VE BEEN PUTTING OFF CLEANING

We know there’s things that you just never want to clean. Ceiling fans and ceilings, baseboards, curtains and drapes, windows, the list goes on. Well since a lot of us have a lot of time on our hands these days, why not use it to get to things you might else never get to! Check out this blog post for ideas to get you started!

STEP OUTSIDE

We know it’s only March and Minnesota can throw some curveballs at you until May, but getting out of the house and getting some fresh air can improve attitudes and health, while making you feel a little less crazy! So take a walk, ride your bike, clean up the yard, or wash your windows. Whatever you do, get outside!

Reorganize a room

REORGANIZE A ROOM

Sometimes just seeing situations in a different light can make you feel better, and the same goes for a room. Rearrange your bedroom, organize the living room so you can have a reading nook in the window, or combine the kid’s bedrooms to give them one big play area.
